About the Macadamia Castle

The Macadamia Castle is over 40 years old and is designated as a State Significant Tourist Attraction with over 200,000 visitors per year. We have many exciting attractions including koalas, free flight bird show, nocturnal house and frog conservation pod.

Prime objectives of the role include

  • The welfare of our animals.
  • Animal Husbandry and care.
  • Training and conditioning of birds and mammals
  • Participation in and management of free flight bird show
  • Maintaining and improving our visitor experience.
  • Improving the quality & variety of our current displays.
  • Creating alliances with local conservation bodies.
  • Developing education programs

Crucial Skills and Experience

  • Minimum Cert 3 Captive Animals or degree in Wildlife Biology or Zoology
  • An in depth understanding of animal husbandry and behaviour
  • 5+ years’ experience in bird conditioning
  • Experience in presentation of free flight bird show
  • Radio telemetry knowledge and use
  • 5+ years’ experience in mammal training and care
  • Experience in mammal conditioning
  • Experience presenting animal encounters and shows for a broad range of animals
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Able to write and carry out education programs and packages
  • Computer competency in Microsoft word, Excel and Dropbox
  • Sound understanding of OH&S/WHS

  • Jess knowledge and use
  • Understanding of bird diet and weight management
  • Member of the ASZK
